Feedray · Character counter and thread splitter
Threads character counter and thread splitter
Threads stays quiet until you are over the limit, and then you count characters and glue the pieces back together by hand. Feedray adds a live counter to the composer and, when a draft gets too long, a Split button that turns it into a thread.

Why it matters
A post of 500 characters is a hard wall. You write a long thought, hit the limit, and decide where to cut by eye. Cut in the wrong place and a word is torn in half. Feedray shows the count while you write and does the cutting for you.
How it works
- Open the Threads composer. A live "N/500" counter appears. It turns orange near the limit and red over 500, and Threads' own counter is hidden while it is on.
- When the first post of your draft goes over 500 characters, a "Split" button shows up next to the counter.
- Press it and the draft is cut into a chain of posts, a thread, right in the composer. The cuts fall on word boundaries, so no word is split in the middle.
- Read it through, fix what you want, and press Post yourself.
Nothing is published automatically. Feedray only rearranges the text in the composer, and the feature has its own switch in the settings.
Questions
Does it post the thread for me?
No. It only splits the draft. You review the posts and press Post yourself.
Where does it cut the text?
At word boundaries, so a word is never cut in the middle.
Why is the original Threads counter gone?
Feedray replaces it with its own N/500 counter while the feature is on. Turn the feature off and the original comes back.
